When embarking upon a sailing holiday then planning is so important. If everything is thought out in advance, it leaves little chance for anything to spoil your holiday and gives you the space to relax and enjoy every minute.

Choice

Sailing holidays in Greece provide you with spectacular views of traditional sugar-cube towns, stunning beaches and amazing ancient sites and monuments. If you are looking for a relaxed sailing holiday, there are two regions - The Aegean and The Ionian, both offer unique landscapes. If you have never been on a sailing holiday before then please don't hesitate! They are not like your traditional package holiday. Sailing gives you the freedom to visit lots of different islands and cultures, and gives you the choice to either sunbathe and relax or explore the many historic sites on these stunning islands. You have a choice of either going it alone on a bareboat charter (this is for the experienced sailor), or having a skippered yacht. The latter gives you the chance to learn sailing from an experienced skipper but not have the stress of anchoring and working out routes. For a more cosmopolitan approach, you could join a flotilla and meet people from other parts of the world, which gives you the opportunity for lively evenings in local tavernas!

Sensible

Always be careful when you are out in the sun, especially on-board your yacht - the sea breeze can be deceptive and trick you into thinking you are not getting burned, so it is important to take precautions to avoid sun stroke and sunburn. Make sure you drink plenty and don't get dehydrated; sitting in the shade during the midday period is a sensible solution.

Luggage

Don't overload yourself with luggage. Firstly there is not a great deal of space to store luggage, so you are better off taking rucksacks or foldable baggage. You will only need swimwear, shorts and t-shirts and a few casual outfits for evening wear. Deck shoes and a sunhat are imperative. A fleece or windproof jacket would be useful in case of strong winds and the essential toiletries, sun cream and bath towels.

Yachts

It is important to hire your yacht from a reputable company in order to make your sailing holiday in Greece absolutely perfect. Yachts are available from 31ft to 51ft, with cabins available for up to ten people. They are fully equipped, providing fresh linen and a fully functional galley. If you are sailing the Ionian Islands, you are best to get a flight to Preveza Airport on Lefkas Island - flights are available on Sunday, Wednesday and Friday from the main UK airports.

Sailing holidays in Greece are ideal for everyone. Beautiful balmy days, warm turquoise water and stunning scenery are all you could want for a perfect holiday location. Swimming, snorkeling and paddle boarding are a few of the water sports available to you, or if you want a more relaxing time, sit back with a cool glass of wine.
